Born and raised in Skopje, Macedonia, Nika Gavrovska is the founder of Gavroche Books. Gavroche is a small independent publishing house primarily dedicated to illustrated children’s literature. After her postgraduate studies in publishing industry and work experience at the Council of Europe in Graz, Austria, she decides to return to her homeland to start her own business, because, as she puts it: there are a lot of things to be done. Gavroche’s mission is to publish foreign authors translated into Macedonian, as well as to promote quality Macedonian creatives in order to fortify the local market, inspire new authors and promote standards. She has recently published her first picture book entitled Bel, illustrated by Risto Avramovski. She is currently writing her second MA thesis on the relationship between the Visual and the Textual Element in children’s books at the University of St. Cyril and Methodius where she works as a French literature instructor at the French Language Department. These days, she is working on her new book, The Wind Story.
